Cumberland Council is a unitary authority formed in 2023, when the districts of Allerdale, Carlisle and Copeland merged, while taking on the functions of the former Cumbria County Council in those areas.
Elections to the council are held every four years with 46 councillors being elected in 46 wards. 18 of those wards are wholly or partly in the Whitehaven and Workington constituency. Politically, the council is currently controlled by Labour.
